Got mags to Sell?

Some ways to go about it....

Lots of people have long runs of magazines they don't want.

Many collectors are missing the odd issue. Some magazines are old, rare and valuable. Others are common as yesterday's newspaper. Who would have thought 30 years ago that early issues of Personal Computer World would be highly valued by retro enthusiasts?

The trick is matching buyers to sellers.  Magazines have no value just sitting in your loft gathering dust. Owners are often sentimentally attached to their accumulations and unwilling to let them go singly. Either that, or they decide to clear the clutter and want to get rid of the lot. But buyers don't want to pay postage costs for large heavy parcels when they only want one or two issues.

We don't have the complete answer but we're working at it. As a small, home-based business we don't have much room here for carrying stock. We're often willing to buy complete sets, especially recent ones in good condition in binders, but you may be disappointed with the price, and you've still got to get them to us.

A better solution is to register your holding with us. We'll advertise it for you for free. Give us some contact information (locality, e-mail address, name and phone number) then, when a buyer seeks certain back issues, we'll collect the payment and send you half the proceeds plus the full postage costs so that you can fulfill the order for us. If the buyer lives near enough for you to deliver, keep the postage anyway. All we ask (if we haven't yet listed your set before) is a simple typed list of all the magazines in your possession.

Of course, we'd like to make this a slick, professional operation along the lines of the Lego 'Brick Link' service which has a network of small suppliers around the world. But that will take time and investment. If anyone knows how to do it on a low budget, we're more than willing to listen. In the meantime, we intend to build up the service slowly, logging collections and availability through a network of trust. We've had some welcome successes in matching sellers and buyers, some even from the other side of the world. If you want to register your interest with us, start by using the 'Contact' button above.

Good luck, and welcome aboard! - John Kerr
